It stands out for its unique architecture and the neoclassic houses near the sea and the hill. The two sides of the port are connected with a stone bridge, the \u201ckalntirimi\u201d, next to which the Customs Office and the fish-market stand out. From the bridge towards the interior of the settlement the square of Kampos is located, with the war memorial and the bust of the history professor M. Volonakis, where events are organized during the festival of Symi. The Town Hall is there and the Nautical museum is next to it. Near the square there is the cathedral of Timios Prodromos, which was built in 1838. It is the main church of Symi and it has a marvelous stone bell tower and a cobbled yard. <\/p>\n
From the stone bridge it is worth taking a walk towards the beach Nos \u2013especially under the sunset. Soon you will arrive at the monument of the Ierolohites and the Fallen who were executed during the Occupation. A few meters away you will see the house of Kampsopouloi (a hotel nowadays) where on 8 May 1945 the Protocol of Integration and Surrender of the Dodecanese to Greece was signed, as well as the only residue of the Italian dominion, that is the building where the Police station is housed. In this neighborhood the stone clock tower of 1881 and the so-called Michalaki, the statue of the little fisherman, a work of the Symiot sculptor K. Valsamis, stand out. <\/p>\n
In the district Harani, the old \u2018tarsanas\u2019 (shipyard) stands out.
