It is the only settlement of Mykonos besides Chora. There used to be many more farmhouses on the eastern slopes of the mountain between the bays of Panormos and Kalo Livadi. These farmhouses led to the formation of the settlement of Ano Mera, which has not been affected by tourism development. It is a well-maintained village, with whitewashed streets and houses in the Cycladic architectural style. The area around it is fertile and this is the reason why it is still filled with farms. The elaborate bell tower of the Monastery of Panagia Tourliani, which is the focal point of the settlement, stands out.
