The unique commercial port of the island acquired its own dock to accept ferry boats in 1984. Until then people and goods were transferred in boats that approached big ferries offshore. Now the boats tie up normally at the dock and this is also the starting point for buses that transfer people to Chora, in response to each ferry route.<\/p>\n
Karavostasis is a quiet settlement, ideal for family vacations. Stretching over the length of the homonymous bay it has some neat small residences, guestrooms, taverns, cafes and ouzeri. Until the 19th century there lied only the chapel of Agios Artemios, the two-storey house of Gerardo and a few tarsanades (shipyards) that the locals call \u201csyrmata\u201d (wires). <\/p>\n
