The people of Folegandros will fascinate you. Until 1980 the island was in the margin, lost in the barren line of the Aegean, while until 1969 it was a place of exile for political prisoners. When in the mid 20th century Zisimos Lorentzatos visited the island, he called it \u201cvirgin\u201d. Commercial trade was rare with the outer world and inexistent inside the island. There was no surplus for trading and every family strove to cover their basic needs every single day. For centuries the people of Folegandros made their living by digging terraces in the rocks. They were literally born on the rocks, grew up on the rocks, worked on the works and when they passed away, they would rest in peace under those rocks.
