The main asphalt road passes through this settlement that is divided into the neighborhoods of Ano Palaiopoli and Kato Palaiopoli. This is where the ancient capital of the island was located. Hence, there is a significant archaeological site and a museum in the settlement. The building where the Archaeological collection of Palaiopoli is housed and the church of Agios Ioannis Prodromos are located in Ano Palaiopoli. This church is the starting point of an uphill climb leading to a waterfall that flows down the slope. The verdant Kato Palaiopoli has beautiful houses. Trails leading to the beach and the archaeological site start from this neighborhood. From a certain altitude, you can also discern an ancient jetty in the water.
