Even in the heart of the summer, the area of Vourkoti is hidden in thick white clouds and the temperature there is several degrees lower than that on the rest island. The landscape is arid and full of dry stone walls. Many visitors pass through Vourkoti in order to reach the impressive Achla beach. The village is small and most of its residents are livestock farmers. A festival called the chirosfagia (pig slaughter festival) is held in Vourkoti in September.
