Panagia – Cave of Agios Ioannis

The most interesting route to the cave of Agios Ioannis starts at Panagia. The trail climbs up the hill behind the village and continues to the other side of the island passing near the island’s highest top, Mountain Papas. Follow the small signs and the makeshift ones made by hikers and you won’t get lost. You will get the chance to enjoy the view over the island, the Small Cyclades, Naxos and Amorgos. After walking for 45 minutes, you will reach the mountain pass that the locals call “the big crossing of the mountain”. From there, you will see the island of Ios right across and the top of Mountain Papas very close to you. Walk down the path having the gulf of Vourkaria to your right.
