Karpathos is famous all around the world for its strong and steady winds that are a common occurrence in this region of the South Aegean Sea. In many organized beaches, like the one in Afiartis in the southern part of the island, it is safe to try windsurfing as the level of organization is high and there are qualified windsurfers all around. It may not be suitable for beginners because the wind is usually strong, but everyone will encourage you to take a shot at it one afternoon at the Chicken bay (the part of the beach for those who are afraid)!
