The coastal route from Otzias is magestic, since the high rocks offer a different and wilder image of the Aegean. At the end of the asphalted road the facilities of the monastery of Kastriani dominate. It was built in 1700, with the expenses of a local landowner when –according to the legend– some villagers, led by a mysterious light, discovered the icon of the Dormition of Virgin Mary. Today there are many facilities and a guesthouse. There is a big festival at the monastery on August 15.
