Kythnos Merihas

Europe, Greece, Cyclades, Kythnos, Merihas

This was not a separate settlement in the past. It served the needs of the island’s fishermen, who had sheds and shipyards there. Ever since it became a port where large passenger ships dock, it has turned into a summer holiday resort.

Apart from the port, Merihas has now also a marina for yachts, sailboats, and inflatable boats. This is the starting point of the bus service of Kythnos (Chora – Loutra and Dryopida – Kanala) as well. There is also a taxi rank and car or motorcycle rental offices here.

There are clubs, cafés, and bars along the waterfront road.

The church of Agioi Akindyni stands out next to the sea on the left side of the port, opposite the pier. The patron saints of this church are considered protectors of the harbor and the ships that come and go. Every year on November 2 the islanders organize a large and very popular festival in their honor.

Info

Vryokastro is located north of Merihas. If you head south, you will come across the historic church of Panagia Flambouriani on the beach that was named after it.
