Porta, the central square of Nikia above which there is the impressive church of the Presentation of Virgin Mary, one of the most beautiful churhes in Greece. It has an oval shape and a stunning mosaic designed by Paschalis Paschalakis, a known craftsman of Nisyros. The old rural health center, the café of Nikolas which is closed, houses and other cafés are lined around the church. The walk in the village will take you to two exquisite viewpoints of the volcano’s caldera and in its alleys you will see many restored houses, painted in bright colors, with the typical sloped tile roof. In the village there are the monastery of Panagia Kyra (Virgin Mary, our Lady) of the 17th century and the monastery of Agios Ioannis the Theologian as well.
