Two monasteries, four parish churches, twenty chapels, ninety country chapels and eighteen more, though in ruins today, have been officially recorded and show how strong the religious sentiment in Serifos is. Interventions made by the founders for their maintenance and the service of the current needs during festivals have altered in many cases their original form with simple, uncluttered lines.
