At Paleokastro, extended ruins of an ancient settlement are distinguished above the bay of Maltas. The inhabitation of the area dates back to the pre-historic era with apparent historical continuity from the Geometrical up to the Hellenistic period. Possibly the flourishing town of Oinoi was located here, which is mentioned by ancient writers Apollonius Rhodius, Strabo and Pliny. It can be accessed only on foot through a path that goes upwards from the beach of Maltas.
