Symi The castle

The Germans occupied the island on 2 November 1943 and on 25 September 1944 they sailed to Rhodes, after they blew up the church of Megali Panagia in Kastro, where they kept their munitions. Thus, the section of the wall that is preserved is very small. Panagia tou Kastrou is interesting though, with its icon of the Second Advent painted by the post-Byzantine hagiographer Georgios Klonzas and the magical view of Horio and Pedi from Gialos. Next to it there is the stone church of Lemonitria, from where you can enjoy the beautiful view.
