Syros By boat

The circumnavigation of Syros from Kini up to Ermoupoli is beautiful. From Delfini sail towards Varvarousa, which is also a good spot for spear fishing. Continue north to the bay of Aetos and you will see the impressive rocks of Schizomenes. Next is the beach of Lia, Megas Lakkos, Marmari and the bay of Grammata. In the background Gria Spilia with its vegetation looks like a lake: here you can moor offshore.

Afterwards you can head towards the northernmost end of the island, Cavo-Diapori (which is a nice fishing place as well). From there heading east you will see the enclosed, small beach of Sykamia with the impressive cave, and you will pass under the grand rock of Kastri. Until you reach Ermoupoli you will meet small deserted bays among rocks and pebbled beaches.

The port of Ermoupoli (VHF: channel 12) is one of the biggest in Greece and a shipbuilding and repair base. You can moor having protection from all weather conditions.

-Other anchorages: Finikas (SW), where there is a marina with 25 places for boats, offers relative protection from “meltemia” (north winds), whereas Grammata in NW is a nice anchorage with calm waters.
