Telendos Agios Konstantinos

Telendos - Agios Konstantinos

The small church is dedicated to Agios Konstantinos and located at an altitude of 250m but looks mostly like it is hung from a steep yet charming part of Telendos, more than 3km away from the settlement. The view is breath-taking and the surrounding landscape is dominated by scattered ruins of the legendary castle of princess Potha. The Byzantine settlement fortified with walls and a perimeter corridor once had big houses with underground vaulted water tanks and was first inhabited in the 6th century, probably after the earthquake that separated Telendos from Kalymnos. As regards the gorgeous chapel, it has incorporated the arch of the sanctuary of the old single-chamber basilica that was in the same position.
