Paros Kolimbithres

Paros - Kolimbithres

On the northern side of Plastiras bay there are Kolimbithres (Baptismal fonts), very interesting landforms of erosion. The coast took its name after the caldron-form concaves reminiscent of baptismal fonts; they are located among granite rocks. It is a granitic rock whose penetration probably took place in the Middle Miocene. Vertical fragmentation of the rock was caused from the cooling of the granitic magma and this led to the creation of rectangular parallelepipeds throughout the mass of the granite. When the granitic rocks were brought to the surface, the effect of the disintegration, the wind erosion and the erosion by the waves created forms having a pillow and ellipsoid shape.
