The pristine natural landscapes, the very few cars, the idyllic beaches where you can spend hours swimming and the peaceful and hospitable people are only some of Irakleia’s qualities. Take a walk through the alleys of Panagia, swim under the imposing rocks of Merihas, gaze upon the landscape from the top of Mountain Papas, explore the cave of Ai-Giannis and get a taste of all the local kinds of pure meat and of the fresh and cheap fish. If exploring is your thing, then you should walk over the entire island on foot. It won’t take you more than 3 hours!

More Info
The cove of Alimia in the northeastern part of Irakleia is an ideal anchorage for those who wish to circumnavigate the island by boat. A sunken hydroplane of World War II, located 9 meters underwater is definitely worth exploring. You will make out the spaceframe, one part of the cabin and the engine of the plane. You have to find the point where the rocks of the beach form a small headland in order to locate the wreckage. When you do, walk backwards a few meters and dive in with your diving mask.
Gastronomy
There is a regular boat service from the port of Piraeus to Irakleia three times a week. The island is also connected to Naxos on a daily basis (except Sundays).
The road network of Irakleia (Agios Georgios-Livadi-Panagia-Tourkopigado) is only 7 km long. There is no bus service. Visitors can use private minivans offering scheduled services that are adjusted to the ferries schedule. They connect the port of Agios Georgios with Panagia and the beach of Tourkopigado.
There are no banks (except for an ATM), gas stations or organized campsites on the island.
