The black cave
It is accessible only by sea. It is located on the N coasts of the island below the solid rock that hosts the Monastery of Zoodochos Pigi (Chrysopigi). It has an impressive entrance and despite its small depth, it is considered one of the most beautiful marine caves in the Cyclades.

Panagia Pantochara
The elegant church overlooks the endless azure of the Aegean from a panoramic point, about in the middle of the route from Chora (Kastro) towards the monastery of Zoodochos Pigi.

On its lintel the inscription reads: “Partheno Sikinio Odysseas Elytis anethike” (“To Virgin Mary of Sikinos in honour of Odysseas Elytis”) and indeed that is the case. The newly built church of Panagia Pantochara constitutes a personal solemn promise of Odysseas Elytis. The cost of the project was undertaken by the poet and companion of the late Nobel Prize winner, Mrs. Ioulita Iliopoulou, at the site granted by the Municipality of Sikinos. The design of the church was signed by architect Alexandros Samaras and the opening was held on August 2011.

It is worth ordering rooster “krasatos” (cooked in wine), stuffed goat and rabbit in the oven.

The meat is local even in the grill houses where they serve gyros.

The most famous local cheese is called just “cheese” and it is soft, white and unsalted.

Of the appetizers, the bulbs and the pickled rock samphire, the “fava” meatballs, the little pies (sometimes with cream cheese and sometimes with onion and sour milk), the salad with caper and “pourazenes” (stuffed vine leaves of broad weed leaves) stand out.

Of the pastries taste freshly fried “loukoumades” (fried-dough pastry soaked in sugar syrup) with local thyme honey, sesame seed candy, watermelon in spoon sweet and famous “diagourenia” (gruel of watermelon juice, flour, honey and sesame).

Sikinos is famous for its thyme honey. The almost 20 beekeepers of the island have formed a partnership under the name “Ypseli”.
