The small valley is located near the settlement of Psychopiana (4km from Parikia). You will be impressed by following the sign-posted short walking route, in a landscape that does not look Cycladic. It is a small green oasis of coolness among trees, bushes and ivies, an ideal biotope for hundreds of butterflies of the species Panaxia quadripunctaria (the same with the ones we meet at the renowned valley of the butterflies in Rhodes.) The route is sign-posted and it passes by the ruins of a Byzantine watermill. During your visit you must not frighten the butterflies which stand still on the tree stumps and leaves. If they fly, they consume valuable energy reserve that they need for their reproduction from middle of June to August. Info The area has been integrated in the community network of protected areas NATURA 2000 as a Site of Community Importance and it has been declared a Significant Bird Area of Greece.
