From April to October in Rhodes strong northwesterly winds, the famous meltemi (etesian winds) blow, thus the island becomes an ideal place for windsurfing and kite-surfing. The most popular centres for such sports are located at the beaches of the west coast, mostly in Ixia and Ialyssos, as well as in Prasonisi, the southernmost part of the island.
