Syros Geological Monuments

* On the northern side of the island there are rare metamorphic rocks among which the eklogites, rounded dark rocks, dominate. They come from metamorphosis of basic rocks, mainly metagabbro under very high pressures and relatively low temperatures, i.e. transfiguration of blue-schist type with glaucophane being the characteristic mineral discovered in Syros in 1845. The geochronological data support a geodynamic process of depth in the Eocene (40-50 million years). Therefore, the aeroliths are an important geotope for the observation of geodynamic phenomena. The visit there is made through trails.
