Kos Festivals

April 23 or Easter Monday: The celebrations of the church of Agios Georgios in Pyli are held on this day followed by horse racing.

On Ascension Day there is a festival at Asfendi.

June 29: The celebrations of the church of Agioi Apostoloi in Antimachia are held on this day.

August 15: There is a festival honoring the Assumption of Mary at the church of Panagia Styloti in Kefalos. Local farmers make goat pilaf every year.

August 28: The festivities of the church of the Beheading of St John the Baptist in Mastihari are held on this day. Traditional celebrations take place outside the church.

September 8: The celebrations of the church of Panagia of Kardamena are held on this day. The festivities in the courtyard of the church include live music and traditional Greek dances.

October 26: The feast day of St Demetrius at Asfendi.

November 21: The feast day for the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Kefalos.

December 6: The feast day of St Nicholas in Pyli.

CULTURAL EVENTS

“Ippokrateia”

Cultural events are organized in selected archaeological sites from June to August under the auspices of the Municipality of Kos. Every year the events start with the recitation of the Hippocratic Oath. Among the cultural events that take place during this period on the island are: concerts of various types of music, theater performances and performances of ancient Greek drama, fine arts and folklore exhibitions, revival of traditions, traditional Greek dances performances and sailing races.

“Dikaia”

A series of events are organized in July and August in the municipal districts of Pyli and Asfendi including concerts, theater performances, traditional Greek dances performances, book presentations, events for kids and sporting events.

“Irakleia”

A series of cultural events are organized in July and August in Antimachia, Kardamena and Kefalos including concerts, theater performances and photography exhibitions.

LOCAL FESTIVALS

On the last Sunday of the Great Lent there are carnival float parades in Antimachia and Pyli.

During the first week of August the “Wine Festival” is being held in Mastihari.

During the first two weeks of August the “Fish Festival” is being held in Kefalos.

During the first two weeks of August the “Honey Festival” is being held in Antimachia.

During the first 10 days of October the “Whitebait Festival” is being held in Kardamena.

During the first week of October the “Pig slaughter Festival” is being held in Pyli.
