The original temple of St. Nicholas was built in Kasteli of Skaros and belonged to the family of Gyzi. In 1651, the date of the Saint’s celebration, they decided to transform the temple into a female monastery. In 1674 it became a Patriarchal-Stavropegic. The nuns were settled in the building and the monastery was running until 1815. After the last inhabitants deserted Skaros, the nuns left the monastery. The new monastery was founded in 1816 in the location where you can find it today, between Imerovigli and Firostefani. The 32 cells that were preserved in the latest years are structured in a Π shape. There are festivals organised for the religious celebration of St. Nicholas, Agiou Panteleimonos, the Holy Spring and Agioy Thaleleo, the outer chapel of which was destroyed by the earthquakes of 1956.
