Irakleia has two basic settlements: Agios Georgios on the north, where you can find the island’s one and only port, and 4.5 km to the south, on the foot of mountain Papas,where you will find the island’s capital Panagia (or Pano Mera). On the eastern part of Irakleia there is another settlement, called Agios Athanasios, with interesting architecture. However, this settlement was gradually deserted and many of the former houses are now transformed into sheep farms by the local breeders.
