Κατά μία εκδοχή το όνομά της προέρχεται από την παλιά βρύση που υπάρχει έξω από την εκκλησία, κατ’ άλλην είναι παραφθορά της λέξης εύρεση, καθότι η εκκλησία κτίστηκε μετά την εύρεση της εικόνας της Παναγίας της Βρεφοκρατούσας. Γιορτάζει τον Δεκαπενταύγουστο, οπότε γίνεται και ολονύκτια λειτουργία.
